CSCS card expiry checker guide

Need to check a crew member’s CSCS expiry date before the next job? Use the card scheme’s official verification service, then record the date you have checked.

1. Choose the right official service

CITB directs card-status queries to the issuing scheme. Its results checker is used for Health, Safety and Environment tests and Site Safety Plus results. 2. Match the result to the worker and the job

Use the information requested by the official service. Check the identity, card type, status and expiry against the person and the work they will do. Resolve missing or conflicting details with the scheme operator before treating them as checked. A test result and a card expiry are different records.

3. Record the verified date

Keep the person’s name or internal ID, card type, reference and expiry date in your register. Retain evidence of your check in your normal secure records. Do not copy a worker’s National Insurance number or date of birth into CertKeep just because an external lookup asks for it.

4. Plan the renewal

Check the issuing scheme’s current renewal rules for that card. Do not calculate expiry from a guessed validity period. Choose a review date early enough to resolve missing qualifications or book any required test.

What if the date is missing or the card has expired?

Flag it for action and contact the scheme operator. Speak to the person managing the site about their entry requirements and the worker’s assigned duties.
